The Resonances of the Festival, a journey to the heart of Francophonie 

An exceptional initiative to celebrate Francophonie in all its glory

Echoing the values of the Festival, these offshoot events or Resonances highlight collective projects that promote the use of French while addressing major societal issues. This exceptional initiative includes 150 events in 40 countries all over the world, with support from over 500 partners. These initiatives – whether they be cultural, social, entrepreneurial, scientific, artistic or societal – celebrate Francophonie and its global impact; a real opportunity to deepen and enrich discussion ahead of the “Journées d’Octobre” (October Days).

Resonances in mainland France

The Resonances of the Festival have therefore joined up with multiple flagship events in France, some of which are already in full swing:

• The Paris Book Fair  in April 2024, with a conference titled “Le Français va-t-il aussi mal que certains le disent ?” (is the French language doing as badly as people say it is?)
• The Paris Poetic Games, led by writer and academic Alain Mabanckou, are honouring the magic of verse with a series of poetry-themed events from May to September
• Alongside the Francofolies Festival in La Rochelle  from 10 to 14 July, the Resonances offered a song dictation, the “Dictée de chansons”, with several performers, as well as a special edition of the Le 1 magazine, in association with the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française
• The Angoulême Francophone Film Festival will take place from 27 August to 1 September. Some of the winners chosen at this 17^th edition of the Festival, whose jury will be chaired by Kristin Scott Thomas, will be included in the programme for the Francophonie Festival in Paris in October
• During the Extra! Festival from 12 to 22 September, the Resonances are teaming up with the Centre Pompidou  in Paris to hold a literary creation session on Francophone digital literature and online spaces

From 4 to 6 October the Fête de la Science, a festival organized by Universcience, will offer various activities focusing on the French-speaking scientific community – with participants coming from Benin, Martinique and Belgium, for example

An echo heard all over the world

From Berlin to Montreal, the Resonances are also going global with events that are as exciting as they are diverse and deeply rooted in our society:

• Plumes Engagées (, a project led by the Institut Français in Lebanon, is sharing the secrets of journalistic writing with 84 young people aged from 14 to 16 years old
• In Dublin, the FrancophonIA competition has been launched – an AI prompt battle in French to showcase secondary school students’ creativity
• In Myanmar, the “And if Brel were a woman?” project (French only) is inviting local groups to embrace and revisit the works of Belgian singer‑songwriter Jacques Brel in order to create two new songs
• With Dramaturgies Caribéennes (French only), Buenos Aires is placing Caribbean theatre centre stage, presenting a Francophonie that is open to the world with six plays and their authors from Haiti, Guadeloupe and Martinique

Lastly, Refaire le monde en français intends to work in Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam to raise local high school students’ awareness of climate challenges by organizing meetings with stakeholders in sustainable development.
